The coolest voice in the room . . .
I began my journey as a comedian in San Francisco at the legendary comedy club, The Holy City Zoo. Working with such great comedians as: Robin Williams, Bobcat Goldthwait, Dana Carvey, Kevin Pollack and Sam Kinison. While in San Francisco I studied improv and performed with a San Francisco institution, The Committee. I honed my craft, polished my act and went on the road.
This was back in the day when comedy clubs were sprouting up all over the United States and Canada. I ended up in Boston, Massachusetts. Their comedy scene rivalled San Francisco. After a year in Boston, I decided it was time for me to move to New York where I started performing at Catch a Rising Star, The Comedy Cellar and I became a regular at The Original Improvisation.
During this time I adopted a dog and I had to make a decision. Either continue going on the road doing stand up, or take care of the dog. Needless to say, the dog won.
I worked a few jobs during this time and then I became a celebrated photographer on the New York party and event scene, on assignment for New York Magazine. I covered the biggest events and red carpet arrivals in the city. But it was my voice that stood out . . .
My colleagues imitated me and I always got the attention of the celebrities I was photographing. It was then suggested to me to get into voice overs. This was proposed to me years before, but that is when the voice over business was a pretty tight knit group. I decided to take a class to see if I actually had what it takes.
Well, all my years of training with stand up and improvisation paid off. I discovered I was a natural at it, especially seeing no one sounded like me. I continued training with a lot of different coaches in New York, created my home studio and started working!
I know how to hit the mark with punch and pizazz and my voice over abilities are from serious and solemn to the whimsical, to that added touch of a knowledgeable old soul.
I am the voice you need for your next project or campaign.
So sit back and relax you have . . . Jimi Celeste!
